Issue #3: Claude Duet, iCloud in ChatGPT, and live translation in Google Meet

1. Anthropic opens a preview of Claude Duet, an assistant that comes to you (Oct 21)

Claude Duet is a new app where Claude acts as a proactive helper instead of waiting for you to type. Each morning it sends a short brief on what needs your attention across your connected apps, checks in every few hours, and can take on tasks like scheduling meetings, drafting follow-up emails, or checking QuickBooks or Stripe for unpaid invoices and drafting reminders. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it plans to do and waits for your OK. It’s a research preview by waitlist, starting with US Pro and Max subscribers, and it uses the same usage limits as the rest of your Claude plan.

Does this matter to you? Small business owners juggling email, invoices, and scheduling: yes, Anthropic says it built Duet for people like you. Join the waitlist if you’re on Pro or Max, and start by connecting only one or two apps. Everyone else: one to watch. Source: Claude Help Center release notes, Oct 21, 2026 entry

2. ChatGPT can now read your iCloud Mail and Calendar (Oct 27)

If you use an Apple iCloud email address, you can now connect iCloud Mail and Calendar to ChatGPT. Once connected, you can ask it to find an email, catch you up on your inbox, check your schedule, or update a calendar event. It’s available on all ChatGPT plans, including Free, on the web, the desktop app, and iPhone.

Does this matter to you? If your email and calendar live in iCloud: yes. Connect it, then try “What’s on my calendar this week?” before letting it change events. Source: OpenAI ChatGPT release notes, Oct 27, 2026 entry

3. Google Meet translates speech in 63 languages (Oct 22)

Gemini-powered speech translation in Google Meet now works across 63 languages on the web, Android, and iPhone. Meet detects which language each person is speaking and translates it into each listener’s chosen language in near real time, even when several languages come up in the same call. It’s for Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Calls can run up to 90 minutes with translation on most of those plans, and up to 8 hours on the higher tiers. Each person turns it on during the call. Google says it doesn’t store voice data or train on your voice.

Does this matter to you? If you meet with crews, suppliers, or clients who are more comfortable in another language: yes, worth a try on your next call. Workspace accounts on Google’s faster “Rapid Release” track are getting it now, and the rest start getting it on November 2. Source: Google Workspace Updates, Oct 22, 2026

4. A faster model for everyday work in ChatGPT: GPT-6.1 Terra (Oct 26)

OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, a quicker model built for everyday office work like drafting proposals, reading technical drawings, filling out forms, and working on a computer for you. It’s rolling out in ChatGPT Work for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans, and you pick it from the model list. OpenAI says your plan’s usage allowance stretches further with Terra than with its bigger models, and your overall limits don’t change.

Does this matter to you? If you use ChatGPT Work for routine tasks and keep hitting your limits: yes, switch to Terra for everyday jobs and save the bigger models for the hard ones. Free and Go users: this one isn’t for you yet. Source: OpenAI ChatGPT release notes, Oct 26, 2026 entry

5. One place to customize Gemini (Oct 21)

The Gemini app now has a single “customize” menu where you can set up skills and connect apps. Skills are saved instructions for repeat jobs, like writing in your own style or following a set format. Connected apps include more than 40 outside services plus Google’s own apps, and you can review or disconnect any of them at any time. It’s rolling out globally for all user tiers on the web, phones, and the Gemini desktop app for Windows and Mac. Most connected apps are in English in the U.S. for now.

Does this matter to you? If you keep retyping the same instructions (“keep it short,” “use our company name”): yes, save them once as a skill. It’s also a good place to check which apps you’ve given Gemini access to. Source: Google Workspace Updates, Oct 21, 2026
